One of the biggest myths I hear is that only older adults need a Power of Attorney. The truth? Every adult over 18 should consider having one.
A Power of Attorney allows someone you trust to handle financial or legal matters if you're unable to do so yourself — because of illness, travel, military deployment, or an unexpected emergency. Life doesn't send calendar invitations before emergencies happen.
Having the proper documents in place can make an already difficult situation much easier for the people you love. Without one, your family may have to petition a court just to pay your bills or make medical decisions on your behalf while you're incapacitated — a process that costs time, money, and added stress during an already hard moment.
